Monster Blood (1992) ⭐⭐⭐ by R. L. Stine

I read an ebook version of Monster Blood for a book club.

This is the one Goosebumps book I wanted to read so bad when I was a kid, but we could never find it in the stores. I was so excited to hear that this was the next book we were reading.

It’s probably the most outlandish Goosebumps book I can remember, about a can of slime that gets bigger and bigger and eventually gets hungry. It was heavily influenced by the 1950s movie The Blob.

Evan has to stay with his very old, very deaf aunt while his parents are looking for a new house in another state. He’s never met this aunt, and he figures this is going to be a very boring few weeks if he can’t even talk to her. Soon he meets the neighborhood girl and they go to a toy shop that sells a gross can of green slime that says Monster Blood on it. Things spiral from there.

I liked the book, but it wasn’t one of his best. It was mostly exciting for me because I finally was reading the one book that eluded my grasp as a child.

I’d recommend it to anyone who likes Goosebumps. And remember, always read the original versions if possible.
