Welcome to Dead House (1992) by R. L. Stine ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was R. L. Stine’s first entry in the Goosebumps series all the way back in July of 1992. I read the kindle version. I think I read this is a kid, but I didn’t remember any of it going in this time around.
Welcome to Dead House was much more spooky than the other Goosebumps book I reviewed, Welcome To Camp Nightmare. You can refer back to that one here: https://blog.silentphotoplay.com/2023/08/18/welcome-to-camp-nightmare/
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was perfect to get me in the mood for the spooky season!
Welcome to Dead house starts as any classic haunted house story should start — Amanda’s father gets a notice that his great uncle has died and has left him a strange old house in a strange new place, and they’re going to move into it! Amanda’s father didn’t even know he had a great uncle, but who cares? Free house!
Amanda and her brother Josh are not thrilled to be moving into this creepy old house that is so far away from everything they’ve known their whole lives. Amanda figures she should make the best of it, since she can’t change things anyway, and begins to like the house. She even gets to pick her own room!
The place is a quiet place. It seems nice, though, and the neighborhood kids are friendly enough. That’s what Amanda thinks, but she and Josh quickly learn that people are not always the way they seem to be on the surface.
Things turn frightening when Amanda starts seeing and hearing strange things throughout the house, and their little dog keeps disappearing to the cemetery….
Keep your flashlight on you while you read this spooky tale which will most likely become a classic on your list of favorite ghostly stories.
Nice review. Thanks!
