Behind File Number 8 is a RCA Victor 45 rpm from 1953. It is another Perry Como single, this time with Keep It Gay/No Other Love.
This one got me looking at the word ‘keep’ like it was from some alien language. Nevertheless, the song is as light and airy and the title suggests.
I got these lyrics off google.
Keep it gay, keep it light, keep it fresh, keep it fair/Let it bloom every night, give it room, give it air,/Keep your love a lovely dream an’ never wake it/Make it happy an’ be happy as you make it!/Let it sing like a nightingale in May, keep it gay/Keep it free or you’ll frighten it away!/Take it easy and enjoy it, while you take it/Keep it gay, keep it gay, keep it gay!/Keep it gay (keep it gay!) keep it light (keep it light!)/Keep it fresh (keep it fresh!) keep it fair (keep it fair!/Let it bloom (let it bloom!) every night (every night!)/Give it room, give it air/Keep your love a lovely dream an’ never wake it/Make it happy an’ be happy as you make it!/Let it sing like a nightingale in May, keep it gay/Keep it free or you’ll frighten it away!/Take it easy and enjoy it, while you take it/Keep it gay, keep it gay, keep it gay!
Side B is a sappy song written by Rodgers and Hammerstein from the musical production of Me and Juliet. Not very inspired, in my opinion.
No other love have I/Only my love for you/Only the dream we knew/No other love/Watching the night go by/Wishing that you could be/Watching the night with me/Into the night I cry/Hurry home, come home to me/Set me free/Free from doubt and free from longing/Into your arms I’ll fly/Locked in your arms I’ll stay/Waiting to hear you say/No other love have I/No other love/Hurry home, come home to me/Set me free/Free from doubt and free from longing/Into your arms I’ll fly/Locked in your arms I’ll stay/Waiting to hear you say/No other love have I/No other love/(No other love)/No other love
Out of the two, I think I’d pick Side A, Keep It Gay, as today’s favorite.
What do you think?
The bottom one really highlights Como’s voice at its best.
