Behind file number 6 is the 1956 Perry Como 45 rpm Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)/Juke Box Baby. It’s another RCA Victor release with our boy Nipper on the front.
The A Side has Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom). This was a pretty good time for Perry Como, as he received 5 Emmys between 1955 and 1959. This was one of his biggest hits.
These lyrics came from google, with a little tweaking from me.
Oh, hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me/It’s so new to me, what you do to me/Hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me/When you’re holding me tight/Never dreamed anybody could kiss thattaway/Bring me bliss thattaway, what a kiss thattaway/What a wonderful feelin’ to feel thattaway/Tell me where have you been all my life/Oh, hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me/It’s so new to me, what you do to me/Hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me/When you’re holding me tight/Never knew that my heart could go “zing” thattaway/Ting-a-ling thattaway, make me sing thattaway/Said “goodbye” to my troubles, they went thattaway/Ever since you came into my life/Oh, hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me/It’s so new to me, what you do to me/Hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me/When you’re holding me tight/There’s a cute little cottage for two thattaway/Skies are blue thattaway, dreams come true thattaway/If you say I can share it with you thattaway/I’ll be happy the rest of my life/Oh, hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me/It’s so new to me, what you do to me/Hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me/When you’re holding me tight/Oh, hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me/How my future will shine/Hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me/From the moment you’re mine/Hot dog!
Side B is Jukebox Baby. Is it wrong to think it’s strange that a 44 year old man is singing about a girl who hangs around a jukebox at a candy store all day? The way he describes the situation, she could be young enough to be his teenage daughter.
On a side note, I love when these old songs name drop. They are often names that are unusual by today’s standards, such as Maybelline and Seventeen in this song.
When my jukebox baby takes the floor/’Round the old jukebox in the candy store/The joint starts jumpin’ till the roof comes tumblin’ down/(Choo-choo-wah, choo-choo-wah, shooby-doo-wah)/Jukebox baby, you’re the swingin’-est doll in town/(Jukebox baby) put a nickel in for Maybelline/(Jukebox baby) drop another one for Seventeen/(Jukebox baby) whisper to your daddy-o three little love words/(Kokomo) How ya gonna get your homework done/When you keep that jukebox on the run/You don’t dig Latin like ya dig that crazy sound/(Choo-choo-wah, choo-choo-wah, shooby-doo-wah)/Jukebox baby, you’re the swingin’-est doll in town/(Jukebox baby)/I hear you knockin’/(Jukebox baby) Keep the coin box hoppin’/(Jukebox baby) Tell me sincerely/That you ain’t forgettin’ no Tina Marie/Oh, jukebox baby, my jukebox baby, jukebox baby/(Jukebox baby, jukebox baby, jukebox baby)/All your lunchtime money goes down the slot/You could live on air if the music’s hot/You just ain’t quittin’ till ya rock that clock around/(Choo-choo-wah, choo-choo-wah, shooby-doo-wah)/Jukebox baby, you’re the swingin’-est doll in town/(See ya later)/(Alligator)/Oh hey, ring-a-dinga what a dungaree doll I’ve found/Run them there now/Jukebox baby, jukebox baby/You’re the wingin’-est, dingin’-est, swingin’-est doll in town
You know what? I like both of these songs!! I know it’s a cop-out, but I can’t pick a favorite. They’re both lots of fun! What do you think?
Perry Como had a great voice. The first song is ok, but I like the second much better because of its swinging big band sound. 🙂
The first song kind of reminds me of Let’s Go Fly A Kite. Not sure why!
