Both of these are from Songs of Childhood, 1923. The first is a sort of sad song. Reminds me of the classic short animated film The Snowman, 1982.
MY SNOW MAN
I made a very large snow man
Of icicles and of snow.
The sun came out; the snow man said,
“I surely have to go.
I do not like this sun so warm.
It will not let me stay;
It’s melting me to water now,
And soon I’ll run away.
When I was a teenager, a friend had a sleepover the day it had snowed. We all went out for a nighttime stroll, and I still remember the way the snow reflected all the light and made it look like day, although it was close to midnight. Everything was so quiet and lovely. This song reminds me of that time.
SNOW AT NIGHT
The snow fell softly all the night,
And now the fields and trees are white.
It covered all our roof and ground
While I was sleeping safe and sound.
What a beautiful memory that is!
🙂 Thanks!
